rajiv gandhi university of health and science: Cancer Screening in the Developing World Madelon L. Finkel, PhD, 2018-05-01 Worldwide, cancer is responsible for one in eight deaths--more than AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. This global burden starkly illustrates the inequality between the developed and the developing world. While the majority of people living in developed countries receive timely treatment, those living in developing countries are not as fortunate and their survival rates are much lower--not only due to delays in diagnosis, but also to a lack of personnel, a paucity of treatment facilities, and the unavailability of many medications. Routine screening--a mainstay in the developed world--could greatly increase the likelihood of identifying individuals with early stage cancers and thus reduce the number of people who present with advanced disease. This book represents a critical addition to the literature of global health studies. Focusing on cervical, breast, and oral cancers, these case studies highlight innovative strategies in cancer screening in a diverse array of developing countries. The authors discuss common issues and share how obstacles--medical, economic, legal, social, and psychological--were addressed or overcome in specific settings. Each chapter offers an empirical discussion of the nature and scope of a screening program, the methodology used, and its findings, along with a candid discussion of challenges and limitations and suggestions for future efforts.

rajiv gandhi university of health and science: USEFUL ABBREVIATIONS FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE (NET / SET / PET and Competitive Examination) DR. TUSHAR M. PATIL, 2020-09-23 What is an abbreviation? Abbreviations have a long history, created so that spelling out a whole word could be avoided. This might be done to save time and space, and also to provide secrecy. In both Greece and Rome the reduction of words to single letters was common. In Roman inscriptions, Words were commonly abbreviated by using the initial letter or letters of words, and most inscriptions have at least one abbreviation. However, some could have more than one meaning, depending on their context. An abbreviation, on the other hand, is also a way to shorten a phrase but with a slight difference. In general, abbreviations tend to shorten the word or phrase being referenced by literally shortening the word but not creating a new one. So for example, shortening the word “avenue” to “ave.” is an abbreviation rather than an acronym because “ave.” does not form a new enunciable word. Similarly, shortening the names of the months, such as “December” to “Dec.” is also an abbreviation because when reading “Dec.” out loud, you would just say the full term “December.”

Suman, Moccia, Salvatore, Singh, Bhopendra, Regin, R., Jeganathan, Joseph, 2024-08-29 The numerous developments in wireless communications and artificial intelligence (AI) have recently transformed the Internet of Things (IoT) networks to a level of connectivity and intelligence beyond any prior design. This topology is sharply exemplified in mobile edge computing, smart cities, smart homes, smart grids, and the IoT, among many other intelligent applications. Intelligent networks are founded on integrating caching and multi-agent systems that optimize data storage and the entire device’s learning process. However, a central node through which all agents transmit status messages and reward information is a major drawback of this design pattern. This central node condition instigates more communication overhead, potential data leakage, and the birth of data islands. To reverse this trend, using distributed optimization techniques and methodologies in cache-enabled multi-agent learning environments is increasingly beneficial. Advancing Intelligent Networks Through Distributed Optimization explains the current race for sophisticated and accurate distributed optimization in cache-enabled intelligent IoT networks given the need to make multi-agent learning converge faster and reduce communication overhead. These techniques will require innovative resource allocation strategies stretching from system training to caching, communication, and processing amongst millions of agents. This book combines the key recent research in these races into a single binder that can serve all the interested theoretical and practical scholars. The book focuses broadly on intelligent systems’ optimization trends. It identifies the various applications of advanced distributed optimization from manufacturing to medicine, agriculture and smart cities.

Because there is considerable diversity and a substantial body of the compositional studies directed towards commercial varieties, this information is useful for identifying traits and features that may be transposed from one variety to another. In addition, compositional and sensory features may also be used for commercialization and to characterize adulteration. Detailed characterization of cultivars can be used to identify super-foods. Alternatively, unmasked historical cultivars may be the focus of reinvigorated commercial practices. Each chapter in this book has sections on the botanical aspects, the composition of traditional or ancient cultivars, the composition of modern cultivars, a focus on areas of research, the specialty of the communicating author of each chapter, and summary points. - Presents the botanical aspects and composition of both traditional and modern plants, including in-depth insight into current research, and overall summary points for each fruit for consistent comparison and ease of reference - Provides important information in the consideration of preservation, transference, or re-introduction of historical/traditional cultivars into current crop science - Provides details on compositional and sensory parameters, from aroma and taste to micro- and macronutrients - Includes data on nutraceuticals and novel components that have proven to impact on, or be important in, food quality, storage, processing, storage, and marketing
